Lisa is definitely one of our favorite Toronto Instagrammer/bloggers because she’s just adorable and her accounts are full of all kinds of great reviews and experiences! We were thrilled that she chose to visit Scarborough Laser Surgery recently with concerns about that one common problem area that plagues so many of us – her abdomen. In the video below she gives an honest and realistic truSculpt iD review and shares her results.

Lisa explains that although she has always been very small, her waist has always been her problem area. (Something you would never have known because this girl knows how to dress and she always looks beautiful!) She recently tried making lifestyle changes that included a bootcamp workout and changing her eating habits by reducing portion sizes, but despite all her best efforts, the results she saw were minimal. She could realistically see that if she took more drastic measures to modify her lifestyle, she wouldn’t be happy. She decided to visit us to explore the option of truSculpt iD treatment because

In the video below, Dr. Sproule assesses Lisa and can see that as someone living a healthy lifestyle with just one area of stubborn fat, she is an ideal candidate for truSculpt iD treatment. Dr. Sproule explains that truSculpt iD is a non-invasive body contouring treatment that works by using radiowaves that heat up the underlying fat, which results in apoptosis. Apoptosis means that the procedure is actually DESTROYING fat cells! Dr. Sproule and Lisa also explain which people are ideal candidates for truScupt iD treatment.

Watch the video below to see Lisa’s complete and honest truSculpt iD review. She will give you a realistic picture of her experience, including sharing some discomfort she felt during treatment, and then show the results she saw in the end.

The question of whether truSculpt id is worth it is a valid one. There are costs involved and anyone considering a body contouring procedure would want to make sure they are spending their money wisely.

I was interested in what the public had to say about this question and a quick search revealed some interesting comments on Real Self. One survey showed that 100% of people believed that the procedure was worth it, which matches what we have seen in our clinic. The areas treated varied from abdomen to back to thighs. For an area like the chin or another small area we would still use truSculpt 3D.

What about the ease of a truSculpt iD treatment? The beauty of truSculpt iD is that it can treat large areas in a short period of time. Once the machine is set up, it runs for just 15 minutes and can treat an entire abdomen in one shot. In the Real Self write up, someone commenting described it as a “heating pad” which is probably one of the most accurate descriptions of what it feels like. Several people commented on how it was much more comfortable than CoolSculpting.

Another great thing about a truSculpt iD treatment is that there is no downtime required. Your abdomen will be red and you’ll feel warm afterward but you can immediately go back to your regular activities. An added bonus is that truSculpt is designed to tighten skin while minimizing fat so you get the benefit of an additional procedure rolled into one!

It’s safe to say that everyone has scars. Some of these scars tell interesting stories, such as the time you had a surgery or fell down and bumped your head as a child. Some people embrace their scars and make them a part of themselves and others just wish they would disappear, especially if they resulted from a more traumatic event like a car accident. Scar removal can be achieved in many cases when scars are treated by an experienced technician. At the very least, they can be greatly minimized

One type of scar that can be especially troubling is a keloid. A keloid is a raised, bumpy scar that develops on some people, caused by an overactive healing response. In some people they grow very large, itchy and uncomfortable and they can end up forming on any part of the body. If you are prone to keloids, the best way to treat one is to prevent it from happening in the first place. For example, if you know you are having surgery, invest in some silicone sheets or silicone spray that can be purchased at a plastic surgeon’s office. Using these products, in conjunction with laser treatment, can prevent the keloid from ever developing while your skin is healing. Once the keloid develops, it can take some work to get rid of it but laser treatments can minimize it. It some cases you may need to have the keloid excised in a scar removal procedure, and then use the methods mentioned above to prevent another one from developing.

Skin tone is another factor in scar development. If your skin is a darker pigment, the scar will likely stand out more and may be noticeable for a longer time. Again, laser treatments can be very effective in treating these dark scars. The problem is that some inexperienced technicians will hesitate to treat the scar but don’t give up!  Keep calling around and look for someone with expertise in treating different skin tones.

Acne scars are another troubling reminder that many people would like to be rid of. Deep laser skin resurfacing can greatly minimize acne scars but may take repeated treatments, depending on how deep the scars are.

Any time you choose to have a scar treated, do your homework on the clinic you choose and do not hesitate to ask questions. Scars are definitely tricky to treat but with the right expertise can be effectively minimized or removed.

We strongly encourage anyone considering any cosmetic procedure to do their research and make sure they get the answers to their questions before jumping in. After all, not only will the procedure potentially significantly enhance your appearance, there are also money and risks involved. Most people do not hesitate to ask their plastic surgeon questions but this post is more about important questions to ask yourself.

Question One:  Do I have realistic expectations?

Realistic expectations are a very important part of any procedure. Sadly, instead of embracing the things that make them individual, some people are looking for a total physical transformation that is just not realistic. If you are a woman with a curvy build, a realistic expectation could be to enhance the curves you have rather than attempting to go home with a ballerina-type body. If you are past middle age, a realistic expectation would be to finish your procedures looking refreshed and absolutely amazing for your age, rather than looking like a 25 year old. Realistic expectations are very important to feeling confident and satisfied once the procedure is finished.

Question Two:  Can I afford any downtime?

Some procedures really do require downtime. This could be downtime from a surgical enhancement or for something like total deep skin laser resurfacing. If you have a lot of demands on your time, this doesn’t mean you should never have the procedure done but instead, you might need to plan ahead for a time when you know your kids will be away visiting your parents or your office is closed down for a week. On the other hand, if you know you realistically will not have the time, speak to your clinic about alternatives that do not require so much downtime. For example, a truSculpt 3D or truSculpt iD treatment would be an effective alternative to liposuction. A gentler skin resurfacing procedure might be possible rather than the type that leaves your skin red and scarred for a week after. Good treatments with no downtime usually do exist when it comes to cosmetic procedures.

Question Three:  Will this procedure really make me happier?

This question is one that may require some soul-searching. The fact is, we have all seen cases of people who seem to keep going back for more and more treatments. Instead of being happier in the end, sometimes they leave the impression that they are becoming more and more discontent. For people like that, there may be more than physical factors at play and a physical transformation may not be the answer they are looking for. However, the truth is that not everyone is like that. If there is something about your appearance that really bothers you or leaves you feeling less than confident, a treatment to correct it may be just the thing you need to get your confidence back and feel comfortable in your own skin. We have seen many people come in for a change or an improvement and leave as happy as can be.

If you do have questions that you need answered before considering a cosmetic procedure, give us a call to book a consultation. We will be happy to go over any alternatives and help you decide which procedure is right for you.

Three Procedures Perfect for Winter

How many times have you thought about getting laser hair removal while slipping on a skirt or a pair of shorts? It’s just as easy to completely put that idea on the back burner during the cold winter months when you’re usually all covered up anyway. The fact is, there are several procedures that would be ideal to do during the winter months. We have detailed several of them in this article:

Laser Hair Removal

Winter is the perfect time to start this procedure. Your hair grows in cycles and several treatments are required to completely reduce hair. If you start during the winter months, the hair might not be completely gone by summer, but your hair growth will be much lighter and finer and easier to maintain with shaving alone. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Because it’s awesome! Our lasers can treat any skin tone without scarring or skin damage.

Skin Pigmentation Removal

During the summer months, with suntan after suntan, and constant sun exposure many people notice an increase in uneven skin pigmentation. This can appear in the form of freckles that weren’t there before or blotches on the skin. Some skin types are especially susceptible to this. These spots may fade more and more slowly with each passing year and eventually you see them all year round. The good news is that an IPL laser treatment can fade these spots very effectively and it works on any skin tone.  Winter is the ideal time to have this treatment done when you do not have any sun tan.

Body Sculpting

Holiday season is almost over and many of us are deep into ‘winter body’ time. This is actually the perfect time to start getting back into ‘summer body’ mode. If you have some small areas of fat that are near impossible to get rid of no matter how well you eat or how much you exercise, this can be treated with body sculpting technology such as truSculpt iD or truSculpt 3D. These non-invasive treatments can target any problem area and result in a 24% decrease in fat after one treatment. They take up to 12 weeks to see maximum effect so now is the ideal time to have your consultation and book a treatment. You won’t regret it!
