Questions to Ask Yourself Before Your Procedure

We strongly encourage anyone considering any cosmetic procedure to do their research and make sure they get the answers to their questions before jumping in. After all, not only will the procedure potentially significantly enhance your appearance, there are also money and risks involved. Most people do not hesitate to ask their plastic surgeon questions but this post is more about important questions to ask yourself.

Question One:  Do I have realistic expectations?

Realistic expectations are a very important part of any procedure. Sadly, instead of embracing the things that make them individual, some people are looking for a total physical transformation that is just not realistic. If you are a woman with a curvy build, a realistic expectation could be to enhance the curves you have rather than attempting to go home with a ballerina-type body. If you are past middle age, a realistic expectation would be to finish your procedures looking refreshed and absolutely amazing for your age, rather than looking like a 25 year old. Realistic expectations are very important to feeling confident and satisfied once the procedure is finished.

Question Two:  Can I afford any downtime?

Some procedures really do require downtime. This could be downtime from a surgical enhancement or for something like total deep skin laser resurfacing. If you have a lot of demands on your time, this doesn’t mean you should never have the procedure done but instead, you might need to plan ahead for a time when you know your kids will be away visiting your parents or your office is closed down for a week. On the other hand, if you know you realistically will not have the time, speak to your clinic about alternatives that do not require so much downtime. For example, a truSculpt 3D or truSculpt iD treatment would be an effective alternative to liposuction. A gentler skin resurfacing procedure might be possible rather than the type that leaves your skin red and scarred for a week after. Good treatments with no downtime usually do exist when it comes to cosmetic procedures.

Question Three:  Will this procedure really make me happier?

This question is one that may require some soul-searching. The fact is, we have all seen cases of people who seem to keep going back for more and more treatments. Instead of being happier in the end, sometimes they leave the impression that they are becoming more and more discontent. For people like that, there may be more than physical factors at play and a physical transformation may not be the answer they are looking for. However, the truth is that not everyone is like that. If there is something about your appearance that really bothers you or leaves you feeling less than confident, a treatment to correct it may be just the thing you need to get your confidence back and feel comfortable in your own skin. We have seen many people come in for a change or an improvement and leave as happy as can be.

If you do have questions that you need answered before considering a cosmetic procedure, give us a call to book a consultation. We will be happy to go over any alternatives and help you decide which procedure is right for you.
