Our lives are busy and taking vacation time to do something that does not involve palm trees and sandy beaches is not ideal for most people. At the same time, we all want to do everything we can to look our best. This can be a tricky balance when it comes to plastic surgery procedures since many of them do require downtime.  This post focuses on remarkably effective treatments that can be done in an afternoon or less and require no downtime.

  1. Trusculpt3D. While liposuction is an effective way to get rid of excess pockets of persistent fat, it does require downtime. This will vary depending on your tolerance of discomfort, and the amount of fat removed. Trusculpt 3D is a treatment that is equally effective and requires no downtime. You can have the treatment done in approximately an hour depending on the extent of the treatment. Then go back to wearing your usual clothes, drive yourself home or even drive yourself right back to work! Results have been shown to be as effective as liposuction in many cases.
  2. Laser facial. Some extensive laser skin resurfacing treatments do require downtime, simply because the skin will be so red and slightly swollen. Other laser facial treatments are more gentle but still incredibly effective. Laser Genesis is one of those treatments. You can have your entire face treated in an hour or less and go on with your daily routine. Your skin will look even better than when you walked into the clinic!
  3. Botox and fillers. A facelift will require downtime due to the bruising, swelling and healing after the procedure. Botox and fillers really do not require significant downtime. If you have never had them before you may choose to have the treatment done near the end of the day in case of some minor swelling that should go down within a few hours. This does not happen to everyone – some people walk out of the clinic and immediately go about their usual routine and no one can tell. The results last approximately a year and no vacation time required!

Undoubtedly, you will feel better and be healthier after putting in the gym time and watching what you eat carefully and that is something to be very proud of! A common complaint, however, is that even after losing weight and building muscle, many people still feel that they have a flabby belly. Or that their bra fat under the arms won’t go away. Laser hair removal has been around for decades and chances are most of us know someone who has had it done. Still, many people have the same questions about laser hair removal and this post is dedicated to some of the most frequently asked questions.

Q: Does laser hair removal hurt?

A: Yes, although how much it hurts varies from person to person, the area being treated, and even the time of the month.  Laser hair removal has often been compared to the feeling of an elastic band snapping on the skin. That is a pretty good description and one thing to remember is that the pain is very temporary. If you can grin and bear it through the procedure the results are long-lasting. Areas with thick coarse hair (think bikini line) will hurt more than others where the hair is finer. The good news is that thicker hair tends to be destroyed more quickly since there is so much dark pigment in the hair follicle to absorb the destructive laser energy.

Another tip is that some people avoid laser hair removal right before their period as your sensitivity to the pain can be heightened at that time of the month.

Q: How many times do you have to have laser hair removal done?

A: Typically, you can count on 6 sessions for each area where you are having hair removal done. This is a general rule, however, since there are other factors involved that could mean you will need more or less sessions. In any case, it is always cheaper to buy a package and most places that offer laser hair removal will be open to transferring the value of your package to a different area if you do end up needing less treatments.  This is a good question to discuss at your initial consultation.

Q: Can laser hair removal be done on dark skin?

A: This depends on the laser. Some lasers were only designed to work effectively on light skin and dark hair. Other lasers work on all skin tones and hair that has a dark root. This is something that you should discuss on consultation with the laser hair clinic you are visiting.

In any case, laser hair removal is a very routine procedure that has been done for decades. The results are long-lasting and it continues to be a very popular and effective option for reducing or removing unwanted hair.

Rosacea is a skin condition that can often be mistaken for acne, especially since it most commonly occurs on the face. Some people are troubled by it on their arms or back or other areas too.  It can be a difficult condition to treat and is often aggravated by diet, excessive heat or sometimes skin care products. Much like acne, it tends to flare up when it is the least wanted and can be difficult to get under control.

Laser Treatment for Rosacea Control

There are several laser treatments that can be used to effectively reduce and control rosacea. The laser used will depend on the degree of rosacea that has developed and other factors such as your individual skin sensitivity. The diffuse redness associated with redness and skin inflammation can be brought under control with just a few treatments, resulting in noticeably improved skin texture.

In more severe cases, untreated rosacea can lead to rhinophyma which is a condition that results in an enlarged, bulbous nose. This condition can result in changing the entire shape and size of the nose and drastically alter the appearance of the affected individual. The good news is that a more aggressive laser treatment can be used to restore the original appearance to the nose. This treatment does require some downtime (count on at least a week at home) and there is more cost involved but those who have had it done are generally extremely satisfied with the result.

Some people are troubled by a double chin because of genetics, while for others it can be something that creeps up with age. What do you think is the most effective way of getting rid of a double chin? How does it work?
