Blotchy brown spots can develop anywhere on the body for several reasons. Sun exposure over time, certain medications (such as estrogen and other hormones) and genetics – all can contribute to brown spots, sun spots, aging spots, birthmarks or freckles.
Generally, a brown spot is a focal area of either a higher number of pigment cells (called “melanocytes”) or an increased number of pigment molecules (called “melanin”) located within the melanocyte. Some brown spots are permanent year round and some come out during sun exposure and then fade in the winter months.
Other skin pigmentations issues are caused by trauma to the skin. For example, both surgical scarring and acne can result in discoloration of the skin.
Brown spots (“liver spots”) or sun discoloration on the face, hands and décolleté can be very aging. Large, visible birthmarks can be embarrassing or bothersome. Some people love their freckles, while others just wish they would go away.
Whatever the reason, if unsightly brown spots are causing you concern, pigment-correcting laser treatments can remove the spots, and improve your skin tone and texture, anywhere on the face and body.
Many skin discoloring issues can be dramatically improved with clinical skin peels. Other pigmentation problems can be more effectively treated with lasers and at Evolution Laser we have a variety of lasers designed to treat specific issues.
Long-pulsed YAG laser, Erbium Laser and fractional laser treatments can all be safely used to specifically target pigmentation issues with little or no collateral damage to surrounding cells. This unique feature is why these laser procedures are among the safest and most effective treatment choices for removing brown spots from the skin.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photo Rejuvenation is a laser treatment that can effectively treat a combination of skin issues at once. IPL treatments make your skin more evenly colored by decreasing the irregular brownish and reddish areas that have developed as a result of aging and sun damage. In addition, IPL brightens the skin and gives it a more youthful glow.
These treatments are all performed in our clinic and typically take less than an hour. Please book a consultation to discuss which treatment, and how many treatment sessions, would be best suited to your needs.
