He went to medical school in Edmonton, receiving his MD in 1980. He did an extended elective at the Parkland Hospital Burn Unit in Dallas, Texas, working with Charles Baxter, the originator of the famous Parkland Formula.
He followed this with a Plastic Surgery residency in Edmonton, which he completed in 1985. His residency involved him caring for patients in the Northern Alberta Firefighters Burn Unit, one of the most active and sophisticated units in North America.
After working at the Canniesburn hospital in Scotland, he set up practice in Toronto directing the Scarborough Firefighters Burn Unit for several years.
He holds a position as Lecturer in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto. Since 1990, he has worked with Resurge International in a several capacities, travelling to a variety of developing countries performing surgery and teaching colleagues with emphasis on Cleft surgery, Burn Surgery, and Microsurgery.
His practice includes significant activity in the subspecialties of Aesthetic Surgery, Laser Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Hand Surgery, Microsurgery, Paediatric Surgery, Post Massive Weight Loss Surgery and Breast Reconstruction Surgery that includes the most sophisticated muscle sparing techniques.
