BOTOX™ and XEOMIN®
BOTOX™ is the well-known trade name of a type of muscle-relaxing drug called a neuromodulator. It is a purified form of a bacterium called botulinum toxin (meaning it carries no risk of infection with botulism). BOTOX™ is used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically to remove wrinkles by temporarily blocking the nerves that contract specific muscles. It has been proven to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate and severe frown lines between the eyebrows and also crow’s feet lines in adults.

XEOMIN® is FDA approved and clinically proven to be equally as effective as BOTOX™ but offers some advantages. XEOMIN® does not contain additives, i.e. it is a naked botulinium toxin, therefore it has less risk of antibody formation. This has the theoretic advantage of patients being less likely to develop resistance to XEOMIN®.

How is the procedure performed?
Neuromodulator drugs containing botulinum toxin (such as XEOMIN® and BOTOX®) address one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Your specialist will inject these muscles with your drug of choice to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows within 24-48 hours of treatment and the treatment results usually last approximately 4 months. We will meet with you to discuss your treatment goals and to perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas for you. The actual injection procedure takes only about 10 minutes and you can immediately return to normal activities following treatment.
